Bharath Institute of Science and Technology was established in the year 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational and Social Trust. BIST acquired deemed university recognition by UGC in 2003 and became Bharath University.

The University is located at Agharam Road, Selaiyur in the Chennai district of Tamil Nadu. The campus is spread over in 350 acres of land in the urban area of Chennai. The campus is well-connected by the road.
