Medical Academy named after S.I. Georgievsky welcomes international students!
On the basis of Government edict of Russian Federation No 1465-р of 04.08.2014 the university is affiliated to the federal state autonomous educational institution of higher education “Crimean Federal University named after V.I. Vernadsky” as a structural subdivision “Medical Academy named after S.I. Georgievsky”.The Medical Academy is located in the Crimean peninsula. With its mild and sunny climate, varied and picturesque landscape, and ancient history the Crimea is a truly unique and wonderful place of the world.

Currently students from 45 countries are studying at our Academy. We aim to offer our students an excellent education experience working closely with our university partners to ensure the quality of our education is of a very high standard.

S. I. Georgievsky’s Medical Academy is a structural subdivision of the federal state autonomous educational institution of higher education “V.I. Vernadsky’s Crimean Federal University” established by the Federal Government Order (number 1465-r of 04.08.2014).

Educational activities are carried out on the grounds of the license № 1260 from 6 February 2015 that was issued for Federal state autonomous educational institution of higher education “V.I. Vernadsky’s Crimean Federal University” by Federal service on supervision in the education and science sphere.

Crimea State Medical University has created a continuing medical education model including:

  • pre-university training – preparatory department, preparatory courses;
  • four departments in training for doctors-specialists and pharmacists – 1st medical, 2nd medical, dental, international medical;
  • department of training medical employees of the highest qualification and additional professional education (APE) –educational programs for interns, residents, masters, refresher training and professional retraining.

37 out of 53 departments of the Academy study clinical medicine.

Specialists are trained by specialty programs: 05.31.01 “Medical business”; 31.05.02 “Pediatrics”; 31.05.03 “Dentistry”; 33.05.01 “Pharmacy”.

Masters are trained by specialty 38.04.04 “State and municipal management”:

1. Master’s program “State management in the field of health protection”.

2. The Master’s program “Management of modern health organization (institution)”.

Academy’s traineeship consists of 32 licensed professions.

Crimea State Medical University developed a comprehensive approach to organizational, scientific and methodological support of the educational process. Education level in Academy meets all requirements of modern medical institution by introducing educational films, molds, phantoms, diagnostic equipment in clinical departments and training center.

The high level of our students’ education is provided by a strong teaching staff: about 700 experts including 383 PhD and 97 Doctors of Sciences (academic title: Associate Professor – 208, Professor – 77).

Currently 4560 students are trained in Medical Academy (1 747 – foreign citizens from 45 countries), 126 interns, 368 residents, 51 post-graduate, 89 masters (second higher education in state and municipal health management).

Main information about academy

History of the Medical Academy goes back to the beginning of the 21st century: in 1918 it was medical faculty of Taurida University.In 1931 it separated and became an autonomous unit – Crimea Medical Institute (Crimea State Medical University).

Since 1995 the higher school has been named in honor of Sergey Ivanovich Georgievsky (rector of the institute in 1951-1970).

In 1998 the higher school became a university with the 4th (highest) accreditation level.

Throughout these years the medical school has been a center for academic and vocational medical education and medical science in the Crimea at the same time offering specialized consultation in the directions General Medicine and Pharmacy.

Today it is an up-to-date educational institution upgrading itself to keep abreast of global trends in medical education and research, developing its intellectual potential and providing top specialists for medical services. The Academy has always been striving for excellence in teaching and research.

To enhance the quality of education the consecutive model of medical education has been created at the Academy: the preparatory department, preparatory courses and medical lyceum; 5 faculties to train doctors and a faculty of post-diploma education.

Junior specialists and bachelors are trained in the specialities: Nursing, Prosthetic Dentistry, Pharmacy; doctors, in the specialities: General Medicine, Pediatrics, Clinical Pharmacy and Dentistry. Internship is available in 22 specialities. Post-diploma education includes residency, Master’s program and postgraduate study or Ph.D program. Refresher courses in 48 specialities are available at the faculty of post-diploma education.

The Academy has elaborated a holistic approach as to the organizational, scientific and methodological aspects of the educational process. The clinical departments are provided with all the necessary equipment and demonstration aids: educational films, moulages, phantoms, diagnostic inventory – everything has been done for the educational process to meet the modern requirements. The Academy is particularly proud of its highly qualified academic staff, which totals 799 persons: 106 Doctors of Science, Professors, and 524 Candidates of Science (Ph.D. holders), Associate Professors. 40 Academy professors are academicians and corresponding members of domestic and foreign Academies of Sciences; 14 are State Prize laureates, 60 have honorary titles.

About 4.7 thousand students study at Medical Academy named after S.I. Georgievsky, including 1.4 thousand foreign citizens from 40 countries of the world.

Since 1999 English has been the second language of instruction, which makes Medical Academy attractive for foreign citizens coming here to study. For the constant development of cooperation with foreign countries and high quality of education the University was awarded the title of laureate in the rating of Ukrainian higher schools “Sofia Kievskaya – 2004”.

For over 90 years the Academy has been training professional specialists. Academic excellence has been highly appreciated by the International Education Society, which has conferred the Academy AA rank denoting TOP INSTITUTION THAT IS INTERNATIONALLY KNOWN AND RECOGNIZED.

From history of the S. I. Georgievsky Crimean Medical Academy

1 April 1931 – the grand opening of the Crimean Medical Institute, was formed of a medioprophylactic faculty. The first three lectures were read – in chemistry, physics and anatomy.

25 September 1931 – the institution was named after Stalin, it was bearing his name till April 1956.

17 February 1936 – the first graduation. 97 students got doctor’s qualification (18 – honors diplomas). Another 94 graduates got diplomas in July.

1 September 1939 – the opening of the pediatric faculty.

1939 – medioprophylactic faculty was renamed to medical.

September 1941 – August 1944 – Institute was evacuated during World War II: Armavir, Dzhambul, again Armavir, Ordzhonikidze, Baku, Krasnovodsk, Kyzyl-Orda. Two full medical courses were completed in Kyzyl-Orda. The institute has trained 850 doctors during June 1941 – July 1944. Most of them went to the army and to the front. The destroyed academic buildings, dormitories, sports buildings were revived by institute’s team, which have returned from evacuation. 1944-45 academic year started on time in the Institute.

1951 – Sergey Ivanovich Georgievsky has been appointed principal of the institute, later the rector. Nineteen-year period – one of the brightest and most productive in the history and development of the university – referred to his name. Research and clinical base were expanded, new departments were established, the number of students increased, the scientific school was formed.

1961 – the institute (one of the first among medical schools in the Soviet Union) begun medical staff training for the developing countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, and then for the European countries.

1966 – dean’s office was created to work with international students, and later transformed into the international medical faculty.

1970 – the institute becomes a university of the first category due to the successful development. This indicates the recognition of its achievements in the educational and scientific activities.

1974 – a monument – a majestic figure of a military surgeon – was established for the 30th anniversary of the Simferopol’s liberation from fascist invaders in the memory of the feat of arms of the Crimean Medical Institute’s teachers and students.

1978 – preparatory department was created, as well as the faculty of dentistry, to which 100 students were admitted, new departments were opened.

1978-1979 – the faculty of doctors’ improvement was created and later renamed to the department of postgraduate education. Now it is the training faculty of highly qualified medical officials and additional professional education.

1981 – the institute was awarded with an order of Red Banner of Labor – for achievements in qualified specialists training for the public health and the medical science development. In the medical institutes of the former USSR ranking the institute was a member of a dozen leading universities in the country.

1987 – a medical school was created and later transformed into a medical college in 2004.

1987-1995 – during a difficult period of restructuring and the formation of the Ukrainian state the institute has successfully carried out reorganization of all parties of the university life that helped to keep the main teaching staff, to strengthen the material-technical base and to provide the necessary level of scientific research.

1994 – the international medical faculty was crated.

July 1995 – the institute was certified and accredited by IV (highest) level by Ministry of education and science of Ukraine.

8 December 1995 – the university was awarded the name of S. I. Georgievsky, who made a great personal contribution to the reconstruction and development of the university, the growth of its authority in the country and abroad.

January 1998 – Head of Government of Ukraine changed the status of the institute: it was transformed into the S. I. Georgievsky Crimean state medical university.

2002 – the university received a license to train specialists in “Pharmacy” in specialty “Clinical pharmacy”.

2005 – the implemented clinic was built on the own university’s funds – educational-scientific-medical complex.

April 2006 – the university was certified IES (Institute of Education Sciences) by higher rating level of AA as a “university known and recognized all over the world.”

2010 – the university obtains status of the State institution “S. I. Georgievsky Crimean state medical university”(short name S. I. Georgievsky KSMU) – Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine of 29.03.2010 № 36-0.

2012 – the university received a license to train masters in the field of “Public administration” in specialty “Public management in the field of health ” (second higher education).

2014 – the university became a part of the federal state autonomous educational institution of higher education “V. I. Vernadsky Crimean federal university” as a structural unit “S. I. Georgievsky Medical Academy” by the Order of the Federal Government № 1465-r of 08.04.2014.

FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS ABOUT RULES OF STAYING 
ON THE TERRITORY OF AND LEAVING RUSSIAN FEDERATION

According to the current migration law, when entering the RF you must get and fill in a migration card. You must fill in a migration card yourself in Russian, clearly and without any corrections. If you do not speak Russian, you are allowed to fill in your personal data using the Latin alphabet in accordance with what is written in your passport. You should indicate “studies” as the aim of your entrance to the country!

On arrival in RF (after every crossing the RF border) you must get registered within 3 working days since the days of crossing the border. To do it, you must apply to Room 11 of the Dean’s Office of the International Medical Faculty and produce the passport and the migration card with a mark about entrance to RF made by a border control.

After that you should receive a registration card in the same office within 5-7 days; it will include the allowed term of your staying at RF.

You must 1) always have your registration card with you; 2) show it to law enforcement officers together with your national passport and migration card when the regimen of your staying in RF is checked.

If you change a place where you live, your surname or name(s), a date of birth or receive a new national passport, etc. you must inform the administration of the Academy (Room 11 of the Dean’s Office) within no longer than three days.

To extend the visa you must apply to Room 11 of the Dean’s Office not less than 1.5-2 months before its expiration date! To extend the registration (for foreigners from visa-free countries), you must apply to Room 11 of the Dean’s Office two weeks before its expiration date! If a student fails to do it in time, they will be expelled!

If you lose (spoil) your registration or migration card, you must apply to Room 11 of the Dean’s Office immediately.

Foreign students who have arrived in RF by visas are allowed to stay in RF for the period determined by the validity of their visa. A foreign student must leave the Russian Federation before their visa is expired if they either do not receive a new visa or do not extend the current visa or do not get permission for temporary stay.

According to Article 25.10 of the Federal Law “On the Procedure for Exiting and Entering the Russian Federation” of August 15, 1996 No. 114-ФЗ foreign citizens who have arrived in RF with violation of the order of crossing the State Border, who have not registered in time, who have not left RF after the permitted period of their stay in Russia has been expired, who have worked illegally, as well as those who have provided inaccurate or false data about themselves while being registered are considered to stay illegally on the territory of RF and bear responsibility in accordance with RF legislation. Responsibility of such foreign citizens and stateless people is determined by the Code of Administrative Offences of RF and includes fines in the amount from two to five thousand roubles for foreign citizens with or without administrative expulsion from the territory of RF.

Science and Research (Crimea State Medical University Russia)

Scientific research is carried out almost at all the departments, in the central research laboratory and in separate scientific laboratories of the University. These are the laboratories of clinical immunology, physiology and ecological medicine, microbiology, morphology with electronic microscopy, biotechnology, functional pathomorphology and surfactant therapy, pharmacology, experimental pathophysiology, immunohystochemistry and lectin hystochemistry, experimental medicine, protein chemistry and protein complexes.

The privileged direction of the scientific research among the University scientists are those connected with different national programs regarding health care of our population.

In particular, the programs on health resort treatment, ecology, tuberculosis, oncology, diabetes mellitus, mother and child health care, AIDS are of great importance. Many of them are financed by the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.

Annually, over 50 scientific themes are elaborated, 5-9 doctoral and 25-30 Ph. D. theses are defended, over 20 manuscripts are published. The University scientists attain up to 70 patents for their inventions, which are applied in the practical health care.

The development of scientific research requires modern equipment: over the last years 2 electron microscopes, flow cytofluorimeter, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, PCR-laboratory, scanning spectrophotometer, CT scanner, digital X-ray apparatus, and modern ultrasound equipment have been purchased.

The scientific progress is also promoted by the publishing activity: the University publishes “Taurida Medical Biological Herald”, “Herald in Physiotherapy and Balneology”, “Taurida Magazine of Psychiatry”, Crimean Therapeutic Magazine”, digest “Problems, Achievements and Perspectives of Medical Biological Sciences and Practical Health Care” are listed in the register of special scientific magazines and collections approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine.

In addition, the scientific progress is achieved through the active international cooperation with medical faculties, research institutions, scientific centers and leading laboratories of Germany, Russia, Belarus, France, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Poland, USA, Canada, India, Malaysia. The University cooperates with its foreign partners in 16 international and 13 national programs.

At present, ones of the most productively working departments in the respect of international cooperation are the following: Department of Biochemistry and Laboratory of Biotechnology (central scientific research laboratory, Professor K. Efetov), Department of Physiology (Professor Ye. V. Yevstafyeva), Department of Pathophysiology (Professor Zagorulko A. K.), Department of Clinical Immunology and Allergology (Professor V. А. Beloglazov), Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Professor Rybalka А. N. ), as well as Laboratory of Clinical Immunology (Associate Professor А. I. Gordienko).

4 clinical departments of the University perform testing of pharmaceutical products that is according to the concluded international agreements with the leading pharmaceutical companies.

The CSMU specialists participate in the international scientific meetings: just over the last years more than 60 members of University academic staff visited the conferences and congresses of the highest level held in the leading countries of the world.

Expansion of the University cooperation with foreign countries and intensification of contacts with partner-universities, e.g. Karl-Ruprecht University of Heidelberg and many others, help young specialists upgrade their knowledge and skill levels.
