Direct Admission IOM Nepal Medical: The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University with the mandate and the responsibility of training all the categories of health manpower needed in the country. Within the first decade of its establishment. it developed a total of 12 campuses scattered over the country out of which 3 campuses were in Kathmandu and 9 campuses were outside the Kathmandu Valley. – Production of human resources for health services
– Provide health services through its health institutions
– Conduct research in health sciences
IOM Journey
Year 1972
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was established in 1972 under Tribhuvan University with the mandate and the responsibility of training all the categories of health manpower needed in the country. Within the first decade of its establishment, it developed a total of 12 campuses scattered over the country out of which 3 campuses were in Kathmandu and 9 campuses were outside the Kathmandu Valley.
In the beginning, the importance was given to training of middle level health workers. The programs for this purpose were:
- ANM
- CMA
- Proficiency Certificate Course in General Medicine
- Pharmacy
- Radiology
- Physiotherapy
- Nursing
- Health Laboratory
- Traditional Medicine
Year 1977
With the passage of time, the institutional goals of IOM changed according to the need of health personnel in the country. The new responsibility was to train the human resources of tertiary-level health professionals. By 1977, it had started a graduate level 2-year Bachelor of Nursing Programme in;
- Community Nursing
- Pediatric Nursing
- Adult Nursing
Year 1978
This year, a community-oriented integrated MBBS programmes was started with intake of 22 students. Later on, students number were increase to 30 and subsequently to 40.
Year 1982
A three hundred-bedded TU Teaching Hospital was completed in 1982 with support from JICA. This hospital provides services to general population and is the center for the teaching/learning and research activities of different programs run by IOM.
At the post-graduate level in 1982, three-year Postgraduate Generalist Training (Family Physician, MD General Practice) was started with the collaboration with University of Calgary, Canada.
Year 1984
A one-year Postgraduate Diploma in Anesthesiology was started in this year with support from the University of Calgary, Canada.
Year 2008
Super specialized training started from this year with M Ch Program in surgery in the following field.

- Cardiothoracic and Vascular
Year 2013
Now, IOM is running 29 different programs from proficiency certificate level to the highest postgraduate degree in medicine, public health, paramedical, nursing and traditional medicine (Ayurved Science) through 9 campuses scattered all over the country.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERION –
For the upcoming admission 2024, students seeking Institute of Medicine, Nepal admission Direct, may go through the college website to get a fair idea about the last year cut-off. For the ease of the applicants the procedure below would help them to get an idea about the eligibility and qualification regarding the admission process. - The student seeking medical college admission should have completed 17 years of age by the 31st of July of the ongoing admission year.
- The students should have cleared 10+2 examination with a minimum of 50% and above in
- 1. English
- 2. Physics
- 3. Chemistry
- 4. Biology
- Students can apply for Admission Direct Quota seats if they secure 50% and above in all subjects
- Students are required to appear in an interview as a part of the selection procedure
Apart from Institute of Medicine, Nepal Direct admission, students can also seek admission to the institute under Management Quota Admission. The Management Quota Seat is reserved for those candidates who may have missed the last date for submission of the application or may have failed to secure the required percentage of marks.
For the foreign students or Indian students coming from foreign bases, admission can be sought under the Institute of Medicine, Nepal NRI Quota Admission. Admissions to the medical college are also granted under Payment Seat or Management Seat quota.

Institute of Medicine, Nepal courses offered includes a 4 ½ years and 1 year compulsory internship after clearing the final examination.
The Institute of Medicine courses include UG Specialization and PG Specialization. The course is divided into 3 Phases.
First Year is of 2 years duration
