In the past, the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Nepal, conducted the IOM PG Entrance Exam to facilitate admissions for MD/MS programs at the Institute of Medicine and its affiliated colleges. The institution, established in 1972 and affiliated with Tribhuvan University, has been a key player in Nepal’s medical education sector. However, the admission process has evolved, and candidates seeking enrollment in postgraduate medical programs must now appear for the MECEE-PG (Medical Education Commission Entrance Examination for Postgraduate).
This centralized exam, conducted by Nepal’s Medical Education Commission, streamlines the admission process across affiliated institutions. Interested candidates can register online for the MECEE-PG through the official Medical Education Commission website. This shift ensures a standardized and unified entrance examination for postgraduate medical education in Nepal.
Important Notice-
There is no separate PG entrance exam for admission to MD/MS in IOM. Candidates need to appear in MECEE-PG (combined entrance exam)

PG Exam Pattern 2025
The MECEE-PG exam pattern is uniform for both Nepalese and international candidates. It features multiple-choice questions (MCQs), with no negative marking for incorrect responses (to be confirmed at the examination venue or official notification). The test spans two hours for certain formats and evaluates candidates over 100 marks.
The Medical Education Commission Entrance Examination (MECEE-PG), organized annually by the Nepal Medical Education Board, serves as a single gateway for MD/MS admissions across Nepal. Comparable to NEET PG in India, the MECEE ensures a unified and merit-based admission process. The test includes 300 MCQs, conducted in online mode over a three-hour duration, with scores determining seat allocation across participating medical institutions.
