The State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell, Maharashtra, has issued Notice No. 11 dated 25 August 2026 regarding the participation of three private medical and dental colleges in Maharashtra NEET UG CAP Counselling 2026–27.
According to the notice, the three institutions will not participate in the first admission round for MBBS and BDS Group-A courses. The colleges have started the process of establishing themselves as private universities and are expected to join counselling in a later round.
Colleges Not Participating in Round 1
The following colleges will not be available for selection during the First Admission Round:
- Dr. Vithalrao Vikhe Patil Foundation’s Medical College, Ahilyanagar.
- N.K.P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur.
- Ranjit Deshmukh Dental College and Research Centre, Nagpur.
The Maharashtra CET Cell stated that these colleges may participate in a subsequent counselling round after completing the required formalities for private university status.
Why Are These Colleges Skipping Round 1?
The three institutions are currently completing the procedure to become private universities. Until the process is formally completed and the required approvals are received, they will not be included in the first round of Maharashtra NEET UG CAP counselling.
The decision has been communicated through Notice No. 11, issued with reference to a letter dated 25 August 2026 from the Medical Education and Drugs Department, Maharashtra.
Rules After Private University Status
Once the colleges receive formal recognition or approval as private universities, the following conditions under Clause 9.3 of the NEET UG 2026 Information Brochure will apply:
- Forty percent of institutional-quota seats will be reserved for candidates holding a Maharashtra domicile certificate.
- Tuition fees will be fixed by the Fee Fixation Committee established by the respective private university.
- Students admitted to these colleges will not be eligible for government scholarship or fee reimbursement schemes.
What Candidates Should Know
Candidates planning to participate in Maharashtra NEET UG CAP 2026–27 should note that these colleges cannot be selected in Round 1 choice filling.
Students who are interested in any of these institutions may need to wait for a later counselling round. Their participation will depend on the completion of the private university process and approval from the competent authorities.
Impact on Choice Filling
Candidates should carefully review the updated Maharashtra NEET UG 2026 seat matrix before submitting their preferences. Since the three colleges are not available in the first round, students should select alternative MBBS or BDS colleges according to their rank, category, domicile, fee budget, and preferred location.
Applicants should also remember that a college becoming available in a later round does not guarantee admission. Seat availability, eligibility conditions, category rules, and the final fee structure will determine the allotment.
Important Instructions
- Do not include these three colleges in your Round 1 preference list.
- Check the latest seat matrix issued by the Maharashtra CET Cell.
- Monitor official notices for their participation in later rounds.
- Verify the final fee structure before accepting a seat.
- Review scholarship and fee-reimbursement eligibility carefully.
- Follow only the official Maharashtra NEET UG CAP schedule.
The three colleges are expected to join a later admission round after completing the formalities associated with private university status. Candidates should regularly check the official CET Cell website for further updates.
