It has a status of an autonomous institute under the Government of Karnataka. College is recognized by MCI/NMC and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences Karnataka. Initially, it was tagged to the district hospital of Bidar, which had 300 beds. It was later upgraded to the new BRIMS teaching hospital with 750 beds.
